What acupuncture is, at Bespoke

Acupuncture is a regulated clinical practice within the naturopathic scope in Ontario. The needles are thin, single-use, and placed at specific points to influence the nervous system, circulation, and the way the body regulates inflammation, sleep, and skin.

It pairs well with the nutritional, hormonal, and lab-informed work that already shapes most patients' care here.

What we use acupuncture for

Acupuncture isn't a one-condition treatment. It works as part of a personalized plan and can support concerns that often overlap with perimenopause and metabolic health:

  • Hot flashes and night sweats — common in perimenopause; the research base for acupuncture here is the strongest of any non-hormonal option.
  • Sleep changes — interrupted sleep, early-morning waking, light sleep that doesn't restore you.
  • Cosmetic facial acupuncture — to support skin tone, circulation, and the way your face holds tension as collagen shifts in your 40s and 50s.
  • Stress and nervous-system regulation — particularly useful when paired with somatic work.
  • General hormone and metabolic support — as one piece of a broader plan that may also include nutrition, labs, and prescriber referrals.

What to expect

First session. Around 60 minutes. We'll talk through your goals, your relevant health history, and what's brought you in. Most of that time is spent on the table with needles placed; you'll rest with them in for 20–30 minutes.

Follow-up sessions. Around 45–60 minutes. Most folks see meaningful change in 4–6 sessions, scheduled weekly or every other week to start.

The needles. Sterile, single-use, and very thin — about the diameter of a strand of hair. Most people describe the sensation as a brief pressure, sometimes a brief sting at insertion, then nothing.

Cosmetic facial acupuncture uses smaller needles placed in specific facial points, often with a longer protocol (8–12 sessions for visible change). It pairs well with our other perimenopause work.

Common questions

Do I need to be an existing patient?

Anyone is welcome to start acupuncture during their initial visit

Is acupuncture covered by my insurance?

Most extended health plans that include naturopathic services cover acupuncture provided by an ND. Check your benefits booklet for "Naturopathic Services" or contact your provider — we provide receipts for you to have your sessions reimbursed.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you're working on. Hot flashes and sleep changes often respond within 4–6 sessions. Cosmetic facial acupuncture is a longer protocol (8–12 sessions). We'll talk about expected timelines at your first visit.

What if I'm afraid of needles?

Most folks who think they'll find acupuncture unbearable are surprised by how mild it is. If you want to start gently, ask for a "low-stim" first session — we'll use fewer points and lighter technique.
